In 2020 and 2023, Vanherwegen had to endure a relapse from her brain tumour. Ever since that day, she struggles daily with the obstacle that has split her life into two, without the room for introspection. Suffering becomes her life, whilst getting breathless.
To reclaim her oxygen she lays the foundation of her project "Magnificent Human". There for she immerses herself in literature on grief and loss, while frequently creating new artwork. Questioning whether artistic expression can help you deal with loss and the grieving process, and how coping helps us create.
The result is an installation of corten steel, microscopic and documentary photography, film, illustrations and poetry. And this collected in an art book.

Remnants of the creation process are present and crucial. Her art creates a bridge between the universal certitude of loss and coping, and her own ongoing struggle.
MAGNIFICENT HUMAN is a delicate, intimate and engaging project to create new pathways into conversations about grief and loss. It aims to reduce society's selfishness and tear down the wall around our vulnerabilities with the ambition to share our burdens with each other.
